CHICKU BUKU-- REVIEW

Chikku bukku is director manikandan's debut film. The cast includes arya, shreya, preetha rao, anoopkumar, ravichandran and others. Music is by the colonial cousins. Two stories are told parallely in the film. One takes place in 1985 and the other in the present. Arjun is a dj living in London. Anu is studing in London. Both travel to india for different reasons. In banglore their flight to Madurai gets canceled and they are left with the option of traveling together. In the mean while then and there arjun reads his father’s diary which he is carrying with him. In the diary his father shekar has written about his first love. Shekar comes to his native place in the middle of his police training to attend his grandparents aruvatham kalyanam. There he see’s ammu and its love at first sight for him. Very shortly ammu also starts loving shekar. Shekar tells about his love to the elders of the family but they strongly oppose because of the fact that ammu belongs to a different caste.
Then shekar and ammu decide to runaway but ammu doesn’t turnup and shekar leaves alone. After a while in his training shekar befriends ammaiyappan. Ammaiyapan is madly in love with his aut’s daughter. Shekar also helps his friend in the early stages without knowing who the girl actually is. Later on he comes to know that the girl is ammu and happens next is for you to watch. On the whole the film is a nice journey between past and present. In his debut film itself the director has managed to try a very different way of story telling and he has pulled it off well. Santhanam’s comedy is very good. Arya as usual has acted well. Shreya looks bit artificial at places but adds charm to the film. Good sebut for preetha. Good music. The film does lag at places. The director could have tried to convey the message more clearly. He could have also avoided making anoopkumar play the role of the old ammaiyapan too. Overall the film is a good watch.
